As the superintendent of Skiatook Schools I want to
welcome everyone to the start of the 2007-08 school
year. Let’s work together as we strive to make our
district the best in the area. Our school district offers a tremendous
learning environment for all students. The entire staff
and school board share the vision of being the top
district in the Northeast Oklahoma. As our state
celebrates its centennial we should focus on making this
year our greatest in the history of Skiatook Schools.
Our test scores continue to improve each year. This
past year the district API (Academic Performance Index)
score was 1233, well above the state average of 1159.
The average ACT composite score for our high school
students has risen to 20.8 which is above the state
average of 20.5 and has been improving over the past
five years. For the past several years our elementary
school’s scores on the state tests have ranked near the
top of all schools in the Tulsa area.
Our district’s commitment to improving instruction is
evident as our curriculum director, Ms. Julie Macomb,
works with each site on curriculum mapping in order to
align our curriculum district wide. Our goal is to have
a rigorous curriculum that offers a challenge to all
students and provides increased student achievement.
We continue to upgrade our
technology each year and are proud of the progress that
has been made in the past few years. The Skiatook School
district is one of only a handful of districts in the
State of Oklahoma that is totally fiber-connected. This
simply reaffirms our commitment to provide our students
with the tools necessary to be successful in today’s
society.
We are continuing to grow as a
district, and with growth comes new construction and
renovation. Construction is nearing completion on the
Skiatook Multi-Purpose Activity Center recently named
the Dr. Gary Johnson Activity Center by the Board of
Education. I want to say how humbled I am with
this tremendous honor. I love this district and
the community. It is truly an honor to serve as
the Superintendent of Schools. This will be a
fantastic facility for our students and patrons. Please
click on the construction icon to view pictures and
information about the center as well as other projects
that include renovations to the library and cafeteria at
Marrs Elementary, along with renovations and additional
classrooms at the high school. Construction is set
to begin shortly on additional classrooms at Marrs
Elementary, Skiatook Intermediate Elementary, and Newman
Middle School.
As we begin the 2007-08 school
year, excitement fills the air at Skiatook Public
Schools. Our students continue to excel in both
academics and extra curricular activities. Please view
our individual sites for examples of student
achievement. If Skiatook is not currently your district,
I want to invite you to become part of our family and
help make Skiatook Schools the top district in the Tulsa
area.
