Cantrell’s Comments

Welcome back to another great year at Newman Middle School.  2008-09 is going to be a great year for all of our students, staff, and parents.  We have made some changes that will help our school be more successful, and have continued to build on our curriculum foundation of having classes that are both rigorous in content and relevant in nature.  We made great strides this past year in our overall school climate, school safety, and student achievement. Our test scores are climbing and our students are reaping the benefits of their hard work.  Even with this success, we are not about to sit back and relax. We will continue to strive for improvement everyday. 

This year at the middle school we will be going all out with our Olympic theme.  The teachers and administration at Newman Middle School will showcase our Olympic spirit with a gold medal year for our students.  We will still focus on our five “A’s”; Academics, Attitude, Arts, Athletics, and Activities, but we will also try to help our students be more global in their development. 

Just as the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China have the theme of “One World - One Dream”.  Newman Middle School will focus on our school working together to have “One School - One Dream”.   We will ask our students to be leaders in the classroom and in the community.  We will set our expectations high and we will strive for excellence.  Our students will be expected to demonstrate what we are calling the “Newman Essentials”.  These essentials are based on “Character, Courage, and Respect”, or in Latin as “virtus, animus, and veneratio”.

We look forward to working with students, parents, and community leaders to not only make Newman Middle School better, but also the community of Skiatook!
