Our Staff
We have 41 certified staff members, 38 assistants and 3 directors with 725 students. Most of our Teachers have over 10 years experience here at Marrs. We are lucky to have assistants, who work in the classrooms. Our assistants either have an associate’s degree or better, or have passed the par pro test. Skiatook Schools is very lucky to have a full time resource officer, Officer Rocky Davis. We have 5 directors that oversee special areas for our district: Elaine McGoffin-Special Education, Diane Boggs-Food Services, Amy Moyer-Federal Programs & Grants. Principal-Joyce Jech
Mrs. Jech has worked at Marrs Elementary for 44 years. She started her teaching career at Central Elementary where she taught 1st grade. At that time there were 3 sections of 1st grade. Marrs Elementary opened the following year housing Kindergarten thru 3rd grade. It was the first year for kindergarten. Mrs. Jech, over the next 20 years, taught 1st grade, kindergarten, and pre-kindergarten. She became Principal of Marrs Elementary in 1987. She has a Bachelor of Science & Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She also received certifications in Administration, Counseling, and Early Childhood.
Mrs. Jech believes all children can succeed. We have to find a way to make all children feel safe and healthy so they can reach their highest potential. Home and School must work together. Marrs Elementary has an excellent staff dedicated to our students. Over the years I have seen much growth and changes in our school system.
Secretaries-Sally Hammontree & Karen Rowan
Sally Hammontree and Karen Rowan are the Secretaries at Marrs Elementary. Sally Hammontree has been Marrs Secretary for 8 years. She keeps the front office running smoothly, taking care of teachers, parents and children's needs. Mrs. Rowan has been Secretary at Marrs for 6 years. She takes care of attendance and finances. These two secretaries work together to see that the front desk and telephones are covered at all times. They are both very caring and dedicated to Marrs. They work together as one of the most competent teams around making Marrs run smoothly and professionally.
Counselor- Stephanie Philip
Stephanie Philip joined the Marrs Elementary staff in 2004. A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Philip has worked in the counseling field in elementary and higher education settings along with community health centers. Mrs. Philip has graduate degrees from Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi.
The counseling curriculum at Marrs is based on developmental principles and focuses on increasing students’ awareness of themselves, each other and the world around them. Some topics addressed are social skills, getting along with others, safety and character development.
Nurse- Amy McQuay
Amy McQuay, RN better known lovingly as Nurse Amy, has been at Marrs Elementary for 3 years. She is mainly housed at Marrs but is the only nurse for the Skiatook School District. She is very caring with the students and is always ready to answer questions for parents and staff. The children love her.
Librarian-Susan Stackler
Susan Stackler has been the library media specialist at Marrs for 24 years. She has a B.S. in Education and an M.L.S. in Library and Information Science. All Marrs students come to her every other week for lessons on using the library and library materials. Fostering an appreciation of literature is her primary focus. The most rewarding part of her job is seeing the love of reading grow in our young students. Library assistant Mary Overlease, checks out approximately 300 books daily to students and teachers. Library materials in the Parent Resource Center are provided especially for use by parents and grandparents.
Fine Arts- Robin Haynes
All students currently enrolled in Pre-K through 2nd grade attend Fine Arts on a weekly basis. The primary focus is music, drama, art and role playing are integrated when time allows. American Sign Language is used on a daily basis with the students and language arts and literature activities are used to enhance lessons.
Physical Education-Jennifer Marrs
The Physical Education program at Marrs Elementary services grades K-2nd. The students attend class twice a week and are taught by an experienced Certified Physical Education Instructor.
Computer Lab and Compass Lab
Marrs Elementary has 2 computer labs. One lab is a Computer Lab and is run by Cathy Ellis. Mrs. Ellis has overseen this lab for the past 12 years. The other lab is Compass Lab and it is overseen by Dawn Crase. Both labs are visited by all classes K thru 2nd once a week. Pre K also goes to the computer lab. The computer lab is open during lunchtime so students can take AR tests.
Special Education
Skiatook Public Schools offers a free education to all children from 3-21 years old. These programs are designed to serve those who are handicapped in any of the following categories: autism, deaf-blindness, deafness or hearing impairment, developmental delays, emotional disturbances, mental retardation, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairments, other health impairments, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, and visual impairment. Cafeteria
Marrs Elementary Child Nutrition Mission Is To Serve Nutritionally Quality Food To Better Prepare Students To Learn!! Encourage Your Child To Eat Breakfast and Lunch. . .
Manager-Angela Sterling has worked for Marrs Elementary for 12 years. She became Cafeteria Manager 5 years ago. She has a staff of 5 other ladies to help her with preparing the food for our children.
Free and Reduced Lunches-provided for students whose lunch form shows need. Forms may be picked up at school offices and/or lunch lines.
Gifted and Talented
Enrichment activities are given through Library, Compass Lab, and the Classroom. We also bring in several different activities for all students.
Wellness Policy
Skiatook Public Schools is committed to providing an environment that promotes students learning, establishing, and maintaining lifelong healthy eating and activity patterns. Well-planned and effectively implemented school nutrition and fitness programs have been shown to enhance students' overall health, as well as their behavior and academic achievement in school. Staff wellness also is an integral part of a healthy school environment since school staff can be daily role models for healthy behaviors.
Marrs provides PE, health classes and recess.

Karen Smith 2009-2010
Its a great honor being selected Marrs Teacher of the Year. I started my teaching career in 1993 and have never stopped learning. I have always loved working with children. It has been a great pleasure teaching the Intensive class. I get a thrill helping the students gain self-confidence and make improvements. I work with Mrs. Davis and love it. We have a great team.
National Board Certified Teachers
Judy Newcomb, 1st Grade Teacher, is the first National Board Certified Teacher at Marrs. She worked at Texaco until her department closed. She went back to school and received her Early Childhood certification from Northeastern State University. She has taught 12 years in Skiatook. Her husband Jack Newcomb has recently retired from teaching at the High School here in Skiatook. They have 2 children, Candice and Josh who both graduated from Skiatook High School. Judy's grandson is currently enrolled in the Day Care program at ECC.
Carol Ward, Kindergarten Teacher, is Marrs second National Board Certified Teacher. Mrs. Ward received her Early Childhood certification from Northeastern State University. She has taught 11 years in Skiatook. She received her National Board Certification in 2008. Her husband, Dan, works for the Tulsa Police Department. She has two daughters, Cecile and Erica. Both girls have attended Skiatook Schools. Mrs. Ward attended Skiatook Schools from kindergarten thru 12th grade.
Diane Krumm, Kindergarten teacher, received her National Board Certification this year. Mrs. Krumm received her Early Childhood certification and her Masters Degree in Reading from Northeastern State University. She has taught for 5 1/2 years, 4 of those years at Marrs Elementary. She attended school here in Skiatook from Pre-K thru 12th grade. Her husband Josh is also a Skiatook Graduate and is currently employed for the city. They have one son, Carson who is enrolled in the schools child care program. Both of Mrs. Krumms' parents are Skiatook graduates.
We are very proud of all the teachers in the School District who are National Board Certified. It is an honor to complete this program.
