Skiatook High School 1:1 Instructional Initiative

This portion of the website will give you information about the 1:1 Instructional Program at Skiatook High School.  Skiatook High School administration and staff would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for passing the bond issue in February 2017, which included the funds to begin the 1:1 instructional program.  We hope that you and your student find much success and preparation through the 1:1 experience.

Purpose

The purpose of the 1:1 Instructional Program is to supply students with a tool to explore and utilize educational resources in the classroom. As part of the growth of technology in education at Skiatook Public Schools, your students are going to have ChromeBooks to use in their classrooms to enhance teaching and learning. Students will be able to have class content and resources online.  However, this will NOT replace the teacher. This program is meant to enhance instruction and increase student engagement, communication and collaboration. The “blended” classroom is what we are striving for.

The educators’ teaching experience will change to enhance engagement and productivity. Students will now have controlled internet access at their fingertips. This will allow the teacher to enhance instruction through a limitless portal of learning opportunities.

The students’ learning experience will be taken to new levels that further engage and prepare them for their future. Students will have access to information and creative tools to present their knowledge and understanding of content. The skills they will learn through the use of ChromeBooks, Google Classroom, and Google Suite will guide them to success in future learning and career opportunities. Google Classroom is the learning management system that will drive the change in lesson delivery and workflow. Google Classroom will be the one stop shop for all course information and supplement material.  Students will be able to access and create work in their Google Drive cloud storage from any device with an internet connection. Through the ChromeBook students will even have the ability to work offline on Google Drive assignments.

Internet Safety

Student internet access will be filtered and monitored by a state of the art system due to student safety being our number one priority.  This system will flag, block, and inform administrators of inappropriate or worrisome content no matter what wi-fi the student is logged into whether on or off campus.

ChromeDesk

To support the ChromeBooks, Skiatook High School has a student help desk, called the ChromeDesk which will be located in the library. This program will enable students to maintain and repair the devices, whether warranty work is needed or accidental damage has happened. During this experience, students will receive real world training and knowledge on the business of computer hardware repair.

Insurance Program

Students and their parents will be given the opportunity to buy into the insurance program for the school year in order to help with the costs associated with accidental damage.  This will cover the first accidental damage at 100% and the second at 50% of the repair costs. The option to purchase insurance coverage for the 2019-2020 school year is now available.  Insurance cost will be $25 until June 20th. When insurance is purchased, the required Responsible Use Agreement must be signed by the student and the parent.  Insurance may be purchased at Skiatook High School in the front office. Cash or check will be accepted. If insurance is purchased by June 20th, the student will receive a “FastPass” for ChromeBook distribution.  After June 20th, the insurance program will cost $30 and only be available for purchase at distribution sessions. Additional information about the 1:1 Instructional Initiative can be found on the Skiatook Public Schools website.

  • Parent/Guardian & Student must sign the Responsible Use Agreement upon insurance purchase.

  • Student may pick up the ChromeBook at distribution without a parent/guardian if insurance is purchased and Responsible Use Agreement is signed by parent/guardian and student.

  • Parent/Guardian must be present at ChromeBook distribution only if choosing not purchase insurance.
