We recently asked our staff "What makes Newman great". This collection compiles the direct feedback from our dedicated employees, illustrating what makes Newman a uniquely supportive, professional, and rewarding place to work.

Theme 1: The Newman Family—A Culture of Unwavering Support

The most dominant theme is a profound sense of family, community, and low turnover, where staff are friends first and colleagues second. This environment of genuine care and collaboration makes Newman feel like home.

  • "We are like family here. We truly care about each other and our students... It's just a great place to work and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!"

  • "This school is different; it runs like a family—a family that actually enjoys helping each other. There are no cliques here; there are flexible teams ready to assemble at the drop of a hat."

  • "Newman is FAMILY. We support each other and the students inside and outside of school. When someone needs something, there is always someone to help and bail them out."

  • "The low turnover comes down to the fact that we genuinely love and support each other through the hard days; we are friends first and colleagues second."

  • "We are colleagues, but we are also more than that—we are family. Although occasional differences or disagreements may occur, we consistently support and collaborate."

  • "We are a team built on compassion, grit, humor, and genuine love for one another. We don’t just work together—we hold each other together."

Theme 2: Exceptional Administration and Professional Trust

Staff members consistently feel respected, appreciated, and fully supported by the school’s leadership, which fosters an environment of professionalism and autonomy.

  • "I feel like we are well supported by our admin and that helps so much! Best admin in the country."

  • "Admin cares about us and treats us like professionals."

  • "The admin and staff are amazing. There is support and wisdom around every corner... The staff support is amazing. From the top to the bottom."

  • "Newman is a place where I am respected and trusted to use my professional expertise and style to provide the best environment for all the students who come through here."

  • "I like the freedom to teach my classes without being micromanaged."

  • "I feel like everyone is essentially here for the good of the students, and we truly are a TEAM. I have never ever felt as welcomed or supported as we do at Skiatook Schools."

Theme 3: Deep Commitment to Middle School Students

Our staff embraces the unique challenges of the middle school age group, focusing on character development, long-term success, and making a lasting, positive impact.

  • "I have an opportunity to make a difference for kids in a time in their lives when they need it."

  • "You will notice how our staff shows up for our students to support them at activities... The kids notice that, and when they see you care, they work harder for you."

  • "I truly believe the care that children receive in middle school shapes how they are as a teen and an adult. I believe this is where their character is formed."

  • "We get these students one time (mostly) in their school career to make an impression that will be with them for the rest of their lives."

  • "We are building a place where everyone matters, and that makes us all want to stay."

  • "I like how everyone supports band and choir. I like the fact that we do Leader in me."
