We're so excited to welcome out students tomorrow for schedule pick up and Rookie Camp. We appreciate your patience. If you can not make it, all of this can be done at back to school night on Tuesday August 11th from 4 to 6.

7th and 8th Grade schedule pick up (8 to 11am):

To try to establish a better flow of traffic in the building:

Everyone will enter through the side bus loop doors.

1. If you know you have not fully enrolled or turned in shot records (7th grade only) you will need to proceed directly to the Syologist table or the nurses table.

2. If you are fully enrolled and shot records have been sent already, head to the table to get your schedule. The tables will be organized alphabetically directly in front of you as you walk in. 

3. From the schedule table, you will find the Free and Reduced lunch form on a table in the center of the commons. The more families that complete this form the better for our school district. Even if you don’t think you will qualify for free and/or reduced meals, please take a moment to complete the form.

4. Pay class fees and Chromebook Insurance

•  if you have cash you will pay on the south side of the commons (in front of the Counselors office). If you are paying by card you will go into the front office. 

• Class fees

• 6th grade will pay a $10 class fee

• 7th grade will pay a $10 class fee

• 8th grade will pay a $25 class fee (includes a t-shirt)

• Option: Fill out a hardship waiver form/Application

• Chromebook insurance $30. Note: Parents can opt out of getting insurance. If you opt out from getting the insurance, your child's chromebook will be delivered to them on the first day of school.

5. Once each student/family has progressed through each area, and they have their chromebook and schedule in hand (unless a new student or opting out of insurance) you will exit the building through the north hall and out the gate.

6. Grand Mental Health will have a table set up outside their room for any families who would like to inquire about services offered. 

NOTE: STUCO and Academic team will not be a class this year. STUCO will do an at large student council and have committee meetings before school, at lunch, and/or after school. The academic team will be meeting during TEAM time.

Rookie Camp (6th grade) | Noon to 2:00 p.m.

3. At this point parents/guardians and students will split up. Students will take their schedule and go to the cafeteria. Parents/guardians will proceed with paying fees and getting Chromebooks. Everyone will progress through the stations as listed above for 7th and 8th grade schedule pickup. 

4. Come back and pick up students by 2pm. The students will meet parents/guardians in the parking lot like an everyday, after school, car rider pick up. 

First Day of School

Athletics- On the first day of school

• In season sports (Football, Softball and Volleyball) will report to their practice locations at their coaches designated practice time. 

• Football will meet at the fieldhouse at 7:45 a.m.

• Prep Season sports will report to Newman Middle School in the cafeteria at 8:00 a.m.

A.M. Bus riders, car riders, and walkers

• The front doors will open at 7:30 a.m. All students will report to the cafeteria until 7:53 a.m.

Cell Phone and other bluetooth capable devices/Smart devices

• In accordance with the newly passed state legislation, “Bell to Bell, No Cell,” Newman Middle School will implement a cell phone-free environment during school hours beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year. This includes all smart communication devices, such as smartwatches, AirPods, and similar technology. From the time students enter the building until 2:50 pm, all such devices must remain out of sight in backpacks and unused. This policy applies throughout the school day, including during athletics, bus transportation from the high school to Newman for athletics and agriscience, lunch and other non-instructional times.

Policy overview:

• Students who bring a cell phone or smart device to school must keep it stored in their backpack or locker–not in their pockets or on their person.

• If a student chooses to store the device in their locker, they must provide their own lock and give the code or a key to the office.

• Devices are not permitted in classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria/lunch area, or on the buses during school hours.

• Devices may not be carried or used until the student has exited the building at the end of the school day.

• Students have the option to check-in their cell phone/prohibited device to the office when they get to school each day if they are worried about the temptation to use their cell phone/prohibited device.

  NOTE: If your student has a chronic medical condition that may require access to a cell phone or smartwatch, please contact the school to schedule a meeting. A case-specific plan and appropriate use contract will be developed in collaboration with school administration.

Schedule Change Requests

• Students wanting to request a schedule change must first complete the GoogleForm to submit a request. The GoogleForm can be found in the students' school email inbox. A request is not a guarantee for a schedule change. 

• Students who failed to earn a passing grade in math or english in the previous year and did not attend summer school will have a schedule with the failed course added in place of an elective.

P.M. Student transportation:

• All car riders and walkers are to exit the front of the building after 7th period. (NMS students are not allowed to another school to be picked up per district policy.)

• Round 1 Bus riders (Buses 10, 5, 4, 7 and 14) will go directly to the bus loop for loading.

• Round 2 and 3 Bus riders will go directly to the cafeteria to wait for their round to be called.

• Any game day athletes needing to ride to the high school will ride bus 25.
