Skiatook High School Drama & Debate received a $5,000 grant from the National Speech & Debate Association. The grant is part of the Keith West Memorial Fund set up by the family of a former debate coach. Skiatook was selected from over 200 applicants nationwide based on the extreme financial need to support a team achieving performance success. The money can be used for entry fees, judging fees, and team meals. The team needs matching donations to make the most of the money. If you can help please contact Coach Keith Denslow at the high school at kdenslow@skiatookschools.org https://youtu.be/gonssVujqPo?t=165

Congratulations to everyone for a wonderful job on Turkey Challenge! On Friday the FFA Students delivered 15,365 cans/boxes of food to SEAC to be distributed. It is amazing how this district shows up every year to help the community. A special shout out to SIE. Stuco has the official numbers but the amount of food we picked up there was staggering. The three pictures attached are of the students sorting items. The trailer loaded with food, there is also 5 ft in front of the gate you see that is full as well as the nose of the trailer. A third picture is of the over 1,000 boxes of pop tarts. Thank you to everyone who participated!

The Skiatook Drama & Debate Team won the Bishop Kelley Tournament on Nov 8-9 by winning all the styles of debate and being the overall performance team earning a dozen qualifications for regional contests. The Skiatook team won all three styles of debate in class 5A at the Bishop Kelley Contest. Aidan Vincent and Elissa Freeman-Potter won the Public Forum style debate arguing about reducing military support for Taiwan. In policy style debate students continued arguing on the national debate topic about intellectual property including AI. Lucas Trego & James Seratte won 1st place, Estella DeLong & Arthur Nicolas won 2nd place, and Cole Farmer & Kenneth Vice placed 3rd. The hardest debates for Skiatook were against the private school from Oklahoma City named Heritage Hall. In Value style debate, Tyler Currey was the champion, Emma Wallace was 3rd place and Cash Stuever ranked 5th place. All three of the topic placers, qualified for regional contest. Isabel Womack also competed in value debate. This month's value topic focuses on whether America should have a wealth tax. In Domestic Current Events speaking, Kyle George repeated his finalist placing from last week. While in Foreign Current Events speaking, Addisyn Miller was the champion, Jacob McKee was runner up, and Kenneth Vice placed 3rd. Lucas Trego and Emma Wallace earned team points for being in the final performance. In the novice division, Logan Wisnoskie won a 2nd place medal, while Noah Martinez was a finalist. In poetry reading, Skiatook had four finalists: Cole Farmer, Tyler Currey, Riley Maple, and Mauricia Gardner. In prose storytelling, Skiatook had Vivian Rouse place 2nd, and Myla Webb place 4th. Both earned regional qualifications. Other prose finalists included: Nettie Gray, Arthur Nicolas, Jeanetta Martinez, and Michael Yanulis. In one of the biggest accomplishments of the contest, first time performers Delilah Garrison and Maleah Daniels reached the Semi-Final round in the overwhelmingly large novice prose storytelling division. The upcoming Freshman actor Gavin Reamy earned awards in Humorous Interp and Monologue Acting. Camden Stuever presented in extemp speaking. The team had 74 team points compared to Tulsa School of Arts & Science (TSAS) 54 points and Oologah's 23 points. Volunteer judging help was provided by parents and alumni including: Josh Boultin, Baylee Boultin, Cole Martin, Damon Vincent, Angie Garrison, Lacie Currey, Ronald Stuever, Bryanna Stuever, Kimberly Seratte, Courtney Horn, and Aaron Rouse. The team has online virtual tournaments over the next month and live debates with the Tulsa Debate League.
